Success Measures worked with the Melville Charitable Trust to implement a learning and reflection process for new grantmaking strategies focused on the root causes of homelessness and housing instability. The team developed a theory of change illustrating the new strategies, supported foundation staff to align grantee applications and report templates with the strategies and built staff capacity to help grantees frame proposal outcomes and develop portfolio level strategy statements. Based on these formative components, the team developed and tested new approaches to analyzing grantee progress across the foundation’s portfolios and conducted a series of learning and reflection meetings aligned with the foundation’s annual cycle.
